On a vibrant, hot afternoon at Kasturba High School, Rasoolpura, Hyderabad an impactful orientation program was held, aimed at enlightening both teachers and students about the evolving landscape of career opportunities. This event, a collaboration between KHS and the BBF team, featured insightful sessions by Ankur Gupta, Founder & CEO Ikshana marketing & Kaartdijin Consultancy and Soumya Ranjan, Co-Founder Profectus Consultants, Inca Foods and Beverages. Their session for Grades 8, 9, and 10 students focused on self-discovery and exploring alternative career paths beyond the traditional roles of doctors and engineers.
An Eye-Opening Experience for Students
The session by Ankur and Soumya was nothing short of transformative. Students were not just passive listeners but active participants in a journey of self-exploration. They were encouraged to think about what they genuinely enjoy and to consider diverse career options that align with their passions and strengths. This was a novel experience for many students who had previously felt like they were merely going with the flow of life. The SWOT analysis was explained, and all students filled in their worksheets after much discussions, clarifications and explanations. However, they enjoyed doing it and found it an “eye-opening” experience.
One student's reaction summed up the session's impact perfectly: "I never thought about knowing myself until today." The realization that they could shape their futures based on their interests rather than societal expectations was empowering. The students' enthusiasm was palpable, with one even asking when Ankur and Somya would return in August, not wanting to miss another chance to engage with them.
Teachers' Reflections
The teachers, too, found the session enlightening. They realized that effective teaching goes beyond using material resources; it involves fostering self-awareness and encouraging students to explore their interests deeply. The activity highlighted the importance of guiding students to think critically about their future and to embrace the vast array of career possibilities available today.
Despite a language barrier, the session's content kept everyone engaged. Teachers noted how their students, usually hesitant to speak up, felt a sense of privilege and excitement to learn from such distinguished personalities. This engagement underscored the session's success and its profound impact on both students and educators.
